Matchbox ® company changes and events 1947 - 1997
Founded in 1947 by Leslie and Rodney Smith,unrelated friends.
The company was named using a part of each name to form Lesney.
And "Products" was used because they were not sure what they would make.
The release of the 1st Matchbox ® The Coronation Coach was in England in 1953
New cars were added each year until the series number reached 75

1948 their first toy was a Larger toy the Aveling Bardford diesel road roller
1952 the Woolworth chain agreed to distribute some of their toys.
1954 the larger scale toys were phased out.
1982 Lesney Products declared bankruptcy on June 11th.
and decided to rename itself "Matchbox ® Toys Ltd" their best known line of toys.
1982 Universal Toys owned by David Yeh bought Matchbox® Ltd in September.
1992 Tyco Corporation bought Universal Toys.
1997 Tyco was bought out by Mattel. The brand now is Mattel Tyco R/C division.

	Buying and Collecting Matchbox ® Toys The 2 boxes pictured too the left look almost alike. Notice the "MADE IN ENGLAND" at the bottom of the left box. The box on the right is a 1992 Authentic Recreations Limited Edition Which came on a card in a plastic bubble. When buying Matchbox ® Collectibles this is something you should be checking.
	IN 1953 Jack Odell started making molds for smaller scale vehicles The name "Matchbox ®" was trademarked. Moses Kohnstam a London toy distributor sold them also using his brand name, "Moko" Matchbox® Truck pictured left is a 1955 No.13
	1964 1964 Lesney Products U.S.A. was formed as a division of the English Lesney Products
	TYCO TOYS,INC A 1993 Matchbox ® is pictured to the left.Starting in 1993 the toy box bottoms read, Matchbox ® Toys (USA) Ltd.,a subsidiary of Tyco Toys,Inc. The printing on the bottom of The Fork Lift Truck inside the box reads, FORK LIFT TRUCK Matchbox® INTL LTD ©1977 MADE IN THAILAND
	1993 TEAM NFL Pictured left is a Matchbox ® TEAM NFL Redskins Limited Edition Series Semi, Distributed by White Rose Collectibles There were many of these Team series cars and trucks through the 90's to many to list here.
	Kellogg's promotional Matchbox ® Trucks Pictured left is one of the Kellogg's Matchbox ® trucks given away as a mail in promotion. There are Model A and Model T Ford trucks released in 1979 and 1989. Brands on the trucks include Corn Pops,Raisin Bran,Eggo and other Kellogg's products.
	1993 SUPER STARS Pictured is a 1993 Grand National Limited edition Matchbox ® Super Stars series number 87 Dentyne By Matchbox ® Toys (USA) Ltd.,a subsidiary of Tyco Toys,Inc.
	Matchbox ® MATTEL WHEELS Pictured is a 2002 Unique Coca Cola Mattel Wheels car Made in China for Mattel Inc. and Mattel Canada Inc. Under the Coca Cola Logo it reads BRAND LA MARQUE And the box reads Marketed by Distribué par The box also notes not for use with some Matchbox ® sets
