Matchbox ® toys,box logos,pictures,a brief history and how to collectFounded in 1947 by Leslie and Rodney Smith,unrelated friends. The company was named using a part of each name to form Lesney. And "Products" was used because they were not sure what they would make. The release of the 1st Matchbox ® The Coronation Coach was in England in 1953 New cars were added each year until the series number reached 75 1948 their first toy was a Larger toy the Aveling Bardford diesel road roller 1952 the Woolworth chain agreed to distribute some of their toys. 1954 the larger scale toys were phased out. 1982 Lesney Products declared bankruptcy on June 11th. and decided to rename itself "Matchbox ® Toys Ltd" their best known line of toys. 1982 Universal Toys owned by David Yeh bought Matchbox® Ltd in September. 1992 Tyco Corporation bought Universal Toys. 1997 Tyco was bought out by Mattel. The brand now is Mattel Tyco R/C division. |
Buying and Collecting Matchbox ® Toys The 2 boxes pictured too the left look almost alike. Notice the "MADE IN ENGLAND" at the bottom of the left box. The box on the right is a 1992 Authentic Recreations Limited Edition Which came on a card in a plastic bubble. When buying Matchbox ® Collectibles this is something you should be checking. |

Kellogg's promotional Matchbox ® Trucks Pictured left is one of the Kellogg's Matchbox ® trucks given away as a mail in promotion. There are Model A and Model T Ford trucks released in 1979 and 1989. Brands on the trucks include Corn Pops,Raisin Bran,Eggo and other Kellogg's products. |
