beeps and whistles.R2's beeps are usually translated for humans  
by C-3PO another droid and R2-D2's companion. R2-D2 carried the 
secret  Death Star plans given to him by Princess Leia,to Obi-Wan.
Which helped the Rebel Alliance destroy the Death Star. 
R2-D2 is very popular with collectors.

A protocol droid designed to help it's masters, with translation, 
etiquette and in the affairs of daily living. Luke Skywalker was 
C-3PO's 43rd master.C-3PO is often found working with R2-D2,with 
their combined mismatched abilities, strangely working very well 
when used together.
